Cllr Kevin Hickson is Senior Lecturer in British Politics at the University of Liverpool having obtained his first degree from the University of Warwick in 1996 and his PhD from the University of Southampton in 2002. He has published widely on British politics. He is a member of Crewe Town Council, serving as Leader between 2013-15, and has also been a unitary councillor and a parliamentary candidate for Yorkshire East in the 2015 General Election. He was a committed member of the Labour Party but left in 2017, mainly because of the party’s stance on Brexit and the lack of opinion diversity generally within the party. He campaigned with Labour Leave during the 2016 referendum. He joined the SDP because it is the only party which offers the correct combination of a social democratic economic and social policies and also respects the will of the people on Brexit. As the Party Chairperson, Kevin welcomes the spirit of openness and polite yet robust debate which characterises the SDP.
