23rd July, 2019 – “Boris Johnson’s economic and social liberalism differs vastly from our Social Democrat outlook but he represents a ‘wild card’ which may deliver Brexit and, in doing so, restore faith in British democracy. The new Prime Minister will be up against a political, business, academic and media class determined to stop him. The fear mongering will be intense – but Johnson should reflect that he carries the hopes of a mainstream majority who want Britain to be an ordinary nation-state. Time will tell whether Johnson succeeds but he may be Brexit’s last chance – and in that I wish him well.”
