Ollie Purser announced as SDP candidate for Batley and Spen

7th June, 2021 – The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced Ollie Purser as the party’s candidate for the Batley and Spen by-election.

Ollie is a recent graduate with a degree in Natural Sciences from Durham. Ollie is passionate advocate of the SDP’s philosophy and platform, and while studying at Durham he established the revived SDP’s first university society. In standing for Batley and Spen, Ollie intends to offer local voters a unique choice for a party – one that’s unreservedly patriotic, pro-jobs, pro-family, and willing to stand for freedom of speech.

“I’m honoured to be standing to represent the people of Batley and Spen,” says SDP candidate Ollie Purser. “In this by-election, I’ll be standing to offer local people a chance to vote for a party that believes in actively fighting for jobs, reindustrialisation, families, and freedom of speech. Through offering a sensible combination of policies, the SDP is the only party that is working to address the social and economic concerns of working-class towns like Batley, Cleckheaton, and Birkenshaw.”

“While the two main parties see Batley and Spen merely as a place to generate headlines, in this election we’re looking to offer this constituency something genuinely novel – politics that reflects their values, and economics that’s in their interests,” adds SDP leader William Clouston. “In contrast to the broken two main parties the SDP is for bringing industry back into Britain, investing in public services and infrastructure, taking a firm stance on crime and social issues, and protecting freedom of expression in schools and in public. These sensible stances are what resonate with local people, and we’re looking forward to giving them a chance to vote for them on July 1st.”
