SDP beats Labour in Leeds

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has today consolidated its hold in Leeds by winning a third seat in the Middleton Park division.

SDP candidate Rob Chesterfield gained a stunning result, obtaining 1,882 votes and defeating sitting Labour Councillor Sharon Burke. Councillor Chesterfield now joins existing SDP Councillors Wayne Dixon and Emma Pogson-Golden in the Leeds City Council Chamber.

Cllr Chesterfield commented:

“I want to thank all those who helped my campaign, but most importantly the people of Middleton and Belle Isle who have put their trust in me. Their issues are my issues, and I will do all I can to represent them.”

SDP Leader William Clouston said:

“I’m delighted that all our hard work in Leeds has been rewarded. Wayne, Emma and Rob are the epitome of community spirit. SDP Councillors serve the public. People see the results and get behind us. This year’s election augurs well for the future.”
