Keenan is the Chair of the SDP’s Youth Wing for under 30s, known as the Young Social Democrats (YSD). He became a member of the SDP in 2019 whilst studying for his Politics BA at the University of Liverpool. In 2020, he was appointed as a YSD Regional Representative for the North West region.
Keenan ran as a candidate for the SDP in the Liverpool Central ward during the 2021 Local Elections and also ran as a candidate in the Liverpool Guild of Students (Student Union) elections.
Following his university studies, Keenan interned with Academics for Academic Freedom, where he assisted in creating local branches for concerned academics, contributed to publications on their website, and participated in media interviews.
Keenan was first elected as Chair of the YSD in 2023 and re-elected unopposed in 2024.
Keenan lives in Preston, Lancashire and works in the Civil Service as an Administrative Officer. He has a keen interest in history, politics and Italian.
