POLICY PLEDGES:
- We will invest in Remploy and wider programmes that encourage employers to recruit, invest in and retain disabled employees of all ages, and incentivise employers to make work more accessible and flexible.
- Great British Railways will define a plan for level access between platforms and trains across the network by 2040, to which all spending must conform.
- We will create a taskforce to mobilise local authorities, retailers and others to fulfil their duty to maintain unobstructed access over pavements, premises and toilet facilities, and will bring forward further legislation as needed to improve the enforcement of accessibility provisions such as disabled parking.
- The DWP is failing to deliver a sustainable safety net for disabled people and will be reformed, with a focus on hiring, training and retaining skilled and effective frontline support. Case work arising due to failings in the system itself must be driven out of the service, with digital options for efficiency.
- Our improved DWP will make assessments more consistent, humane, relevant and constructive, eliminate unnecessary appointments, and end perverse disincentives preventing volunteering or undertaking partial returns to work.
- We will offer adults with learning disabilities the choice of congregate care and accommodation settings, supporting good quality village communities.
- Noting an epidemic of poor mental health, we will invest further in CAMHS and extend adult access to mental health services, complementing our community regeneration work.
