JOHN WATERSTON ANNOUNCED AS SDP CANDIDATE FOR SELBY AND AINSTY BY-ELECTION

John Waterston

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) today announces that their candidate for the Selby and Ainsty by-election on the 20th of July will be local man John Waterston.

A former Chairman of Selby Round Table and an active contributor to local charities, John started his career as a manager in a local building society and now runs a pub in Selby town centre.

John Waterston says,

I’m standing because I want to make a difference.  I have spent more than half my life living and working in Selby.  My two children live and work here.  My wife worked in education for three decades in the area.  I would be honoured to represent the constituency in parliament.

John’s campaign will be focused on four important areas:

1. Fighting crime through well-resourced pro-active policing.

2.  Improving public transport – particularly local bus services.

3. Strengthening the local economy via good quality jobs and economic development.

4. Supporting local sport and recreation initiatives for young people.

William Clouston, Leader of the SDP commented:

Yet again, the SDP is very proud to have selected such a strong local candidate to fight a key by-election – this time in Selby. Coming after our recent electoral success close by in Leeds we’re looking forward to a lively campaign.

The establishment parties have let us down. The Tories think Britain is a shop – with everything up for sale. Labour think it’s a charity. For the country’s sake we must do better than this. People looking for a sensible alternative will find it in the SDP.”

Editor’s Note:

The Social Democratic Party, founded in 1981, is a patriotic, economically left- leaning, and culturally traditional political party. Our flagship ‘Social Market’ economic model views the private sector and the public sector not as opponents but as complementary parts of the same society. We believe that individualism has over-stepped.  Instead, we focus on what unites and brings society together at the level of the family, community and the nation.
